The NSW Energy Savings Scheme (ESS) is a key initiative by the New South Wales Government aimed at reducing energy consumption and cutting greenhouse gas emissions throughout the state. By participating in this scheme, businesses and households can access a range of benefits designed to enhance energy efficiency and promote environmental sustainability.
To tap into the advantages of the NSW ESS Scheme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Residency in NSW.
Being a customer of an electricity retailer participating in the scheme.
Businesses must hold a valid Australian Business Number (ABN).
Households can also participate, especially if they are part of their electricity retailer’s hardship program.
The equipment or system installed should aim to reduce electricity consumption.
The NSW Government ESS Scheme covers various technologies aimed at improving energy efficiency, including:
- Air Conditioners: Only split system air conditioners with a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) of 3.5 or higher are eligible for rebates. Window-mounted units are excluded.
- Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems: Eligible solar PV systems must have a minimum capacity of 1 kW. This also applies to aggregated installations meeting or exceeding 1 kW. All components must comply with Australian and relevant international standards, and installers must be accredited by the Clean Energy Council (CEC).
- Lighting: The scheme supports a variety of lighting technologies, including LEDs, fluorescent lights, high-pressure sodium vapour lights, and induction lights, all of which are eligible for rebates.
The NSW Energy Efficiency Scheme, also known as the NSW Gov Energy Saving Scheme, is a pioneering initiative that supports the broader goal of enhancing energy sustainability and efficiency across New South Wales. Along with the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program, it has provided energy-efficient incentives to over a million households in both Victoria and NSW for more than a decade.
Benefits of Participating in the NSW Energy Efficiency Scheme:
Universal Eligibility for Commercial Industries: If your business uses an electric hot water system, joining this scheme is easy. Its inclusivity ensures that a wide range of commercial enterprises can access the scheme’s benefits.
Substantial Cost Savings: Upgrading to an approved energy-efficient system under the VEU and ESS incentives can reduce operating costs by up to 80%. This significant reduction in energy expenses enhances your operational efficiency and strengthens your financial performance.
Professional Installation: The scheme prioritizes quality, with all installations performed by qualified tradespeople who adhere to the highest standards of workmanship and safety. This ensures that systems are installed correctly and efficiently, maximizing their energy-saving potential.
